Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 31, 2026
Wrong Envelope ("the App") is an awards trivia quiz game. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
1. Information We Collect
- Sign-in data: When you sign in with Apple, Google, or email, we receive your user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name and email address. Apple may provide a private relay email address instead of your real email.
- Anonymous sessions: If you use the website without signing in, an anonymous session is created automatically so your picks and tracked films can be saved. No personal information is collected for anonymous sessions. If you later sign in, your anonymous data is linked to your account.
- Quiz data: Your quiz scores, streaks, achievements, and daily quiz results are stored locally on your device. If you are signed in, scores are also synced to your account for the global leaderboard.
- Oscar predictions: Your Oscar picks are stored locally and, if signed in, synced to your account for cross-device access, scoring, and picks leaderboard participation.
- Film tracking data: Films you mark as "seen" are stored locally on your device and, if you are signed in, synced to your account for cross-device access.
- 1v1 challenges: When you send or accept a trivia challenge, your display name and quiz score are shared with the other player so you can compare results.
- Oscar pools: If you create or join an Oscar pool, your pool membership and picks are stored to provide group standings and scoring.
- Profile photos: If you upload a profile photo from the app or website, it is stored in our cloud storage and displayed on your profile, leaderboard entries, and pool standings.
- Usage events: We record anonymized usage events to understand how the app is used and improve the experience. These include app opens, screen views, quiz starts and completions, picks and film tracking activity, and share actions. Events are linked to your user ID (if signed in) and stored in Supabase. No personally identifiable information is included in event data.
- Push notification tokens: If you enable push notifications, we store your device token and platform (iOS or Android) to deliver ceremony updates and winner announcements. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate your account and sync your data across devices.
- To save your quiz progress, scores, predictions, and seen films.
- To provide leaderboard rankings, Oscar pool standings, and picks scoring.
- To send push notifications about ceremony updates if you opt in.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties.
- We do not use your data for advertising or marketing purposes.
3. Data Storage
- Account data, predictions, seen films, quiz scores, pool memberships, and device tokens are stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS).

4. Third-Party Services
- Supabase: We use Supabase for authentication, data storage, and real-time features. See Supabase's privacy policy.
- TMDB: We use The Movie Database (TMDB) API to display movie posters, cast, and plot information. TMDB may receive your IP address when this data is fetched. We do not send any personal information to TMDB. See TMDB's privacy policy.

Crash reports may include device information (OS version, app version, device model) and error stack traces, but do not include personally identifiable information. Email addresses are automatically stripped from error data before it is sent. See Sentry's privacy policy.
- Expo: We use Expo to deliver push notifications. Expo receives your device push token to route notifications. See Expo's privacy policy.

You can also clear specific data types (quiz history, picks, or seen films) individually. Alternatively, email us and we will delete your account and all associated data within 30 days. Local data (quiz scores, cached films) stored on your device can be cleared by deleting the app.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
